Social action

Section 1, Chapter 2

Marx says about social action:

But a particular commodity cannot become the universal equivalent except by a social act. The social action therefore of all other commodities, sets apart the particular commodity [money] in which they all represent their values. 

Aber nur die gesellschaftliche Tat kann eine bestimmte Ware zum allgemeinen Äquivalent machen. Die gesellschaftliche Aktion aller andren Waren schließt daher eine bestimmte Ware [Geld] aus, worin sie allseitig ihre Werte darstellen. (S. 101)

Pero sólo la acción social puede convertir una determinada mercancía en equivalente general. Por eso la acción social de todas las demás mercancías segrega una mercancía determinada [el dinero] en la que todas exponen su valor desde todos los puntos de vista. (p. 97)
